hey guys!
I'm doing a zine about 'violent chicks in action flicks', and was wondering if you could help. I made this questionaire to gauge the opinions of the feminist community in general, and it would really help me if you could fill it out...just copy and paste the following questionnaire and reply to this message.
Thanks everyone!
love aideen xox
apologies for major major cross posting…
1. What do you think of action movies in general?
Good? Bad? Indifferent? Why? If you don't like them, what is your favourite film
genre and why? What do you think of the violence aspect of these films?

2.What is behind the increase in the number of women in action films?
In recent years there has undoubtedly been an increase in the number of women in action movies, particularly in mainstream cinema. Whereas once there was only Alien, Terminator and, erm, Tank Girl, we now have Charlies Angels, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, The Matrix, Tomb Raider, Kill Bill and loads more. Some
people see this as a sign that women are gaining more equality, others think that it has a lot to do with economics and marketing. In your opinion, what is the reason for this increase?

3.What about the feminist implications of this?
Do you feel that there's anything particularly feminist about women kicking butt on the big screen? How do you feel about these films in general (i.e. films with female action heroines)? How should we, as feminists, treat them?

4.Favourite female action heroine?
Who is your favourite female action heroine and why? Does she embody any characteristics which are particularly feminist? Is she a good role model?

5.Do you think seeing images of violent women can do anything to counteract violence against women?

6.Worst female action film and why?

7.Trinity (The Matrix)or Thelma Dickinson (Thelma and Louise)?
Who's the coolest?

8.Role models...
Do you feel that action films in general provide good role models for men, or do they just give society negative assumptions about masculinity? How about for women? What are the best non-violent role models, both male and female (and why)?

9.Best self defence tip?

10.Roughly what age are you?
I know this might sound irrelevant, and I also don't like stereotyping people by their age. Just bear with me and answer honestly. I'd like to compare results.
You can be vague if you like eg. teens, 20s, 30s etc

11.Are you a feminist?
If so, for how long?

12.Any final thoughts?
Is there anything I've left out? Anything you wish to add? Would you write an article for me? Please? Be your best friend?

Critically speaking, it pisses me off when the likeness of the critic is used to advertise a community as shitty as this.

i used to be on here with a different lj name. now im back muha.

okay im really annoyed by these 'hardcore' 16 year old kids. with their tight pants and black and blonde hair and their lip piercings and their white belts. and they listen to all these shitty hardcore but then they have to listen to atleast one random band like the cure or like the beatles. or something not hardcore. they drive me insane. and they are usually straight edge.
when i see a group of them they all look the same. really now. be yourself.

here's two annoying things -- short and sweet, but worth mentioning considering just how much they aggrivate me.

01: people who walk on the wrong side (of anything:) here in america we walk on the right. we drive on the right and we read leaning from the left to the right -- everything goes in the direction of the RIGHT. why is it that some people can't seem to get this clear? i'm having a hard enough time getting my headspace to narrowly crawl inside the tight ear of the thick headed baboon bounding down the wrong side of the staircase at me, let alone trying to balance understanding the action with getting the fuck out of the way. so hey, to all the james bonds out there shooting down the wrong side of the stairs: give it a rest. i don't think the mission will be that much of a disaster if you take the extra five seconds to pull your head out of englands ass and walk down those ten steps properly.

02: the clueless: and by this i mean them in general, but i'm thinking of one very specific thing: geography. i think that inherent to your living and participating in this country -- to be a working social cog -- you must know:

a) where the states are in location to the state you are in.
b) the abbreviations for said states (and i mean all of them!)

so there is absolutely no excuse for an asian kid to be bruce lee-ing his way through pre-calculus only to pause, take half a breath and ask me what the abbreviation for OHIO is. what could it possibly be? the state has four fucking letters. pat morita didn't come to this country and pave the way of the asian male just for you to come in and bonehead it up. this, like the stairs, only takes about five seconds to think about. jesus christ, people. after answering, through my clenched teeth, he asked me where ohio was, in relation to massachusetts.

i told him it was somewhere near seattle.

Cell Phone Ring Tones
It's like woohoo, your cellphone makes neat sounds-BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZT
DEEEDEEDEEDEDEDEEEDEDEDDEEEEDDEEEDEEE. Are you TRYING to be obnoxious!? Maybe I'll get a cellphone, and have my ringtone be a voice recording that'll go: "HEY!!! THE FUCKING PHONE IS RINGING!" over and over, really loud. That'd be pretty hilarious.

good rant
What we must all agree stinks more than anything is how this community changed from something promising to a fucking message board for the moderator.

Good show. This place now sucks more than a toddler who hasn't passed the oral stage.

Thank you. Fix it up instead of posting your shitty news and requests that no one cares about.

My roommates and I decided to have an Autumn Celebration Party.

Friday around 8 or 9ish

Bring some warm (vegan) food if you can.

Bring warm clothes because we might show a movie outside.
I'm thinking the first Freddy movie, or Dark City.

BYOB (we are making some spiced rum apple cider, but theres not going to be a lot, so we might just keep it for certain people... as selfish as that sounds)

we might set up some stuff too, for fun, like bobbing for apples. we are still thinking.

but yes... ummm

so apparently some douche bag manager from jordys apartment or something like that, saw a flyer for the show... so now its not there anymore... and we arent sure where it will be...

it will either be:
A) On the same street, just a different house.
B) @ the wesley and then after party somewhere, probably our place.
C) Our place (highly unlikely, but its possible)
D) or... cancelled... blah

so keep looking on livejournal for updates.

we might just say "fuck it" to the show and get wasted at someones house. either way. fun times.

just let me know if you have questions.

God, I know other people deal with this too and it really pisses me off: when other people answer your friend's IM's.

What the fuck is someone's deal? If I wanted to talk to a drunken moron, I'd go to random AOL giant chat room and pick one out. AIM's are personal, if you don't own the screen name, sign up for one because the last time I checked, they were free or feck off!

Ah, feels better.

So this girl IMed me earlier, all fucking hyper and whatever. Generally, I really like her, and she's a sweetheart. But today she just pissed me off.

She asked me if I could entertain her. Now, I don't know about any of you, but that is you forcing me to talk to you. If I had something to say, maybe worthwhile entertainment, I would fucking say it. But don't ask me to entertain you, much less tell me to do it, because I'm just going to fucking ignore you.

Oh yeah, and whoever the fucker is down the street who has that really fucking loud remote control shit, STOP IT. People have other things to do than hear some high-pitched mechanical whine for hours on end.

so. im labeled this poser at school. only cause theres the group of, and i laugh when i say this.. 'real punks' with their patches, and bondage pants and plaid and green hair, and what not... that say so. now, i would say i listen to my good share of my type of music, the pop punk sound ive been in for a while, and then ofcourse, the emo, then lofi... and recently rancid. so if i were to go to school, wearing a rancid shirt all i would get would be dirty looks by them, and i can only laugh because it offends them SO much. i have my week of shirts planned out for the first week... it starts on a tuesday so i have, a rancid shirt, avril, blink, and missy elliot shirt. i cant wait to get the looks. and how much fun it is to piss so many people off with my shirt. because i like the music gives me the right to wear the shirt right? [although i have nothing against avril, i particularly dont like her music, or style, only cause her voice is more of a yodel instead of singing.] yea. just had to say that somewhere.

It does not make you cool whatsoever to be like this: IaMsOcOoL

Fuck you man. Unless you're giving me some hidden fucking message with either the capitals or the lowercase, don't fucking do it, it makes you look like a sloppy cunt.
